Learn How to Make Money from Storage Unit Auctions |
|
Below I list the things that you need to bring and I explain in detail why you need each item. At the end of the chapter, I will go over the list again. The most important thing that you have to remember to bring is CASH, most complex owners require payment up front, and they don’t accept personal checks or credit cards. They can’t afford to lose anymore money by having a check bounce or having problems with credit cards. They already lost money from the previous renter now they just want the cash. Second, bring a flashlight. I will go into different types of auctions later, where I go further into detail on why some owners don’t let you go inside a unit. That is why it is important to bring a flashlight; if you can’t go into the unit you may not be able to see things in dark corners. Even if you CAN go into the unit it is a good idea to bring a flashlight to look into the darker corners of boxes, and the unit itself, you never know what you might find. REMEMBER: Watch the people around you when you are shining the flashlight, you don’t want them seeing something that they wouldn’t have seen if it you didn’t have the flashlight. Third, make sure you bring some locks, a simple combination or padlock will suffice. The reason for the locks is simple. If you go to an auction where multiple units are being sold, things usually go fast, after one unit is sold the group moves right on to the next unit. If you win a unit, you won’t have time to move things out unless you miss all the other auctions. It is a good idea after you win a unit, to close the door, and lock it with your own lock. Locking the door, will give you some peace of mind, so you don’t have to worry about anyone taking the items that you just won. REMEMBER: The units that are being auctioned usually have their locks cut off or are the complex owner’s property don’t expect the owner to give you one of his locks. Fourth, remember to wear old clothes, if you get to go into the unit, you may be walking through some dirty stuff, don’t wear your Sunday best to these auctions, you may come upon some dusty items. Fifth, this is important, but not necessary for the auction. If you win a unit, chances are quite good that you will have to haul a lot of stuff away. It is nice to have a big pickup truck or vehicle that has room to carry away a majority of the items. Sixth, make sure you bring the newspaper that had the auction notice in it. Or if you called the owner make sure you have all of the information on the auction written down. It is important to have this because you don’t want to go the wrong unit, or even the wrong storage complex. Seventh, this is not really something you can bring to an auction, but I highly recommend scouting out the auction location the day before, the reason being is you obviously don’t want to miss the auction. Many times these complexes are in the middle of nowhere, and they are quite easy to miss. The day before make sure you get proper directions, drive to the auction site, and even drive up to the unit or units to be sold just to make 100% sure you know where the unit is.
So to recap; make sure you bring, Some of these things aren’t necessary, but they are all important, make sure you remember them before you go win some merchandise
